What is the Social Anxiety Safety Behaviors worksheet?
The safety behaviors worksheet names six common ones. Avoiding eye contact, speaking very little and using your phone to distract yourself sit alongside rehearsing sentences in advance and only speaking to people you know. It then sets short-term benefits against long-term impact in two facing columns.
How to use the Social Anxiety Safety Behaviors worksheet
Use it in session. The two-column table is the argument the sheet exists to make. Feeling less exposed sits directly opposite being unable to build connections with others. Seeing them level with each other does more than being told. Ask which of the six the client used most recently, starting with Avoiding eye contact, rather than asking in general. Your clients can then drop one behaviour in one specific situation.
