What is the Socratic Questions worksheet?

The socratic questioning worksheet takes one thought through seven questions. Socratic questions are open-ended questions designed to encourage critical thinking and deeper understanding. The first asks what evidence supports and contradicts the thought; later ones ask what advice you would give a friend.

How to use the Socratic Questions worksheet

Send it as homework once the thought has been named in session. The instruction is to explain your thought process for each question below, and that wording matters. The questions are ordered deliberately: evidence first, alternative explanations second. The friend question sits near the end, where it works because the reasoning is already done. Your clients can write a revised thought in the final box.

Two printable pages. The first records the event and the initial thought, then opens the questioning with evidence for and against. The second carries the remaining questions, including whether this is the likely or the worst-case scenario. It ends with a box for the revised thought.
